Meet the team - Ignacio Gutierrez

Introducing the last profile of 2019 for our latest feature, Meet the Team. The idea is that you get to know some of the people behind our next-generation retirement income software.

Next up is our Chief Technical Officer.

Nacho holds a System Engineering Degree from Universidad de Belgrano and has extensive knowledge in building software products. Nacho works closely with Timeline’s team of developers, designers and quantitive analysts to support the continuous improvements of our software.

Over the last couple of years, Nacho has enjoyed being part of such a great project, and an even greater supportive team.

Let’s find out more from Nacho.

CTO - what does that entail?

Defining the technical direction of Timeline

Coordinating the development of new features

Coding :)

Fixing Bugs

Analyzing how our users use Timeline and find areas for improvement.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day involves waking up, making a good cup of coffee and a 10-second commute to my desk 💻.

It’s usually a mix of coding, peer-reviewing code and communicating via Basecamp with our many-different-timezones remote team.

What has been your biggest achievement since you joined Timeline?

I can think of three:

  1. Understanding Abraham’s original spreadsheet with Timeline’s idea without knowing anything about retirement or financial planning.
  2. Doing a rewrite of our entire code base to release Timeline V2. That’s something everyone says you should not do but it worked out perfectly for us.
  3. Having an influence on how we organize and communicate, and achieving a good remote working culture.

What’s the best bit about your job?

Hearing good feedback about our product and knowing that we are building something that addresses a challenging problem.
